Acclaimed Broadway actress who also became a star of the silver screen. She appeared in the 1932 production of When the Bough Breaks and in such silent and early sound films as The Moment Before, The Woman in the Case, and The Love That Lives.
She starred in such stage productions as Madame X, The Girl in White, and Joseph and His Brethren.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She died in the Los Angeles area at the age of fifty-five.
Her strong resemblance to Joan Crawford led her to be cast as the young actress' mother in the 1931 film This Modern Age.
She preferred acting in silent films to acting in "talkies."
